7-Hour Introduction to Wind Loads
This course provides 7 hours of continuing education and offers an overview of residential wind load requirements. Participants will learn how to determine ultimate and nominal wind speeds and applicable risk categories, identify surface roughness and wind exposure, calculate enclosure classification and internal pressure, and determine component and cladding pressures for roof and wall zones. The course also covers protection of openings in wind-borne debris regions and an understanding of structural reactions due to wind forces.
Students have 90 days from enrollment to complete the course at their own pace.
